A Closer Look at Card Publisher Wet Yeti

Say hello to …

Steven Collier from Wet Yeti.

Tell us a little about yourself and your company?

I live and work in Edinburgh illustrating and designing greetings cards, producing artwork for print and other products such as mugs and phone covers, some of which I sell in our shop Caoba. More recently I have been working on a game called “Go Yeti!” which has brought some of my yeti characters to life in a new and exciting way.

What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is the buzz I get from creating something that I like or other people like.

Do you use any specialist techniques?

I use a wide range of equipment and tools to create my artwork. Usually I will sketch and draw out my ideas with pencil and paper before transferring it onto my computer. Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop are my favourite art packages. After spending last year at college learning photography I have also started using a DLSR camera to create interesting effects.

What do you have planned for 2013?

I will be working with new Edinburgh based app designers Nevistech to produce graphics for some new games and promotions and putting together some new Wet Yeti card ranges. Mostly I will be spending 2013 trying to avoid a mid-life crisis as I will have turned 40!

Inspiration …

What inspires your designs?

My inspiration comes from almost everything around me. It could come from anything as small as a mark on the floor or a pattern on a leaf. Anything that will kick-start my imagination.

What other card and gift designers do you admire?

Modern Toss cards appeal to my sense of humour, and Rob Ryan’s cutouts are very inspirational.

Thank you Steven!
