Chocolates with a Charitable Side

We’re starting the week with something a little different … a mix of new product release and charity appeal. Online gift retailer Georgiana May have recently launched a collection of handmade charity chocolates in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer. The chocolate box includes milk and white chocolates flavoured with rose and blueberry. To hear the story behind their creation let me hand on over to Fiona from Georgiana May.

“I have always had a strong belief that business should, where it can, support charitable work. This is something that I had planned to put into place once Georgiana May was a little better established. However, earlier this year I came into contact with David of ‘For A Taste Of…’ and rather by chance we started discussing launching some chocolates to support a cancer charity, which is a cause he is very passionate about.

In April, I received some devastating news that a close family member had ovarian cancer. Treatment was due to start but very sadly we lost that person shortly after the initial diagnosis. Following this event David put me in touch with Target Ovarian Cancer. I was shocked to learn that things could have been so different if our family member or any of us around her had been aware of the symptoms of this disease. For a couple of years we had heard her talk of the symptoms but we had all put it down to signs of ageing. Figures from Target Ovarian Cancer show that only 4% of women would recognise any of the symptoms of ovarian cancer. I hate the fact that our ignorance about these symptoms took such a special person away from us. It is for this reason that I am so very keen to do my bit to try to help Target Ovarian Cancer to achieve their aim in increasing awareness. I hate to think there are other families who will go through what we have been through when it can be avoided.

The chocolates that we have just launched are £10 for a box of 36. They are a mixture of milk and white chocolates flavoured with rose oil and blueberry pieces. All the ingredients used are natural and the chocolates are completely preservative free. We feel that keeping the chocolates natural and preservative free is hugely important as there have been many questions over chemicals used in the food industry. This has, however, meant that we are not able to send out the chocolates during a heatwave – they don’t cope with the heat in the back of a hot post van very well.

We are also supporting the Target Ovarian Cancer “Walk For One Million” in October. Georgiana May have their own team (myself and my husband!) and we hope to be able to raise further money for this important cause.”

To purchase a box of these very special chocolates please visit the Georgiana May website. Alternatively you can send an additional donation or sponsor Fiona and her husband in the “Walk for One Million” charity event at their Just Giving page.
