Festive Trend: Penguin Christmas Cards
With the instant success of this year’s John Lewis advert penguins are already getting a lot of attention this festive season. Monty the Penguin (along with newly arrived girlfriend Mabel) was a huge hit, putting penguins at the top of the Christmas wishlist.
While the department store has a huge selection of penguin-themed merchandise to tie in with the advertisement campaign I wanted to check out the other penguins hitting this year’s Christmas offering. So today’s post is a pick of my favourite penguin Christmas cards from the independent designer scene.
My first penguin pick is a sweet handmade card from The Handcrafted Card Company (shown above). A cute illustrated penguin christmas card finished with bows and gems for festive sparkle. The card is available as as shown for £3.80 or with personalisation for £6.30 from The Handcrafted Card Company website.
Great for little penguin-fans is this googly-eyed christmas card from Stripey Cats. The cards are die cut into a snow globe shape and matched with a bright red envelope. £2.50 from the Stripey Cats website.
For grown-ups, I love the elegant look of this penguin Christmas card. The design features a pair of penguins under the mistletoe. The design is printed on a heavyweight textured board and finished with fluffy tummies for each of the penguins. The card retails at £3.55 and is available direct from the Penny Lindop website.
The ‘Penguin Suit’ Christmas Card is a bold, fun design. The snowy background gives the design a contemporary polka dot look to match the penguins cute bow tie. Retailing at £2.25 the card is available direct from the Lisa Jones Studio website.
The final image is a pair of penguin Christmas cards from Alice Palace. The ‘Santa’s My Hero’ and ‘Joyful Christmas Penguins’ designs feature Alice’s signature cute illustrations matched with contemporary text. Great for adults and kids alike, the cards are £1.65 each from the Alice Palace website.
