A Look at Life Charms Gifting Jewellery Business.
In this week’s industry interview we caught up with Emily Cocklin from Life Charms. Producing gifting jewellery with vintage card designs, Life Charms aims to offers unique designs that are prettier than the average gifting jewellery.
Tell us a little about your company.
I am the creative director, Tony and I were discussing how plain all the giving jewellery was and we thought it needed to be prettier. We’ve been going about 4 months now.
What is your role in the business?
I’m the Creative Director and I love designing and putting together new cards.
Is there anyone else in the team? Tell us about them.
Tony is the Director, he helps come up with new jewellery styles and catch phrases for the cards.
What is a typical day like at your business?
A typical day would be brainstorming new design ideas and managing the Life Charms website. Making sure everything is up to date with web imagery around the site etc.
What inspires which product lines you create?
Normally the jewellery inspires what we create. I design something to fit around that and the quote. The artwork normally comes last after the motto and jewellery.
Tell us about your design style.
My design style is ‘shabby chic’ as its a style that never really goes out of fashion. Its something most people love as it is just pretty, no matter what taste you have.
Are there any other card or gift designers you admire?
Cath Kidston as the designs are always very lovely and colourful. I also think it’s great that the designs are so easily recognised.
In college I did some graphic design studies on Orla Kiely so I’d say she is also someone that inspires my designs.
What is your personal favourite product in your collection?
It’s hard to choose but as I love cats I’d have say ‘Easy Life’. I love baby blue as well so that design is probably up there in my top favourites, along with ‘Karma’ & ‘Playful’ (shown at the top of the post) as I just love the colours on the cards.
What are the most popular products in your current range?
Our most popular are definitely the ‘Adventure’ & ‘Friendship charms.
What new products do you have planned for the future?
I am currently designing our bridal range, which will feature a number of gifts for brides to give out; such as jewellery gifts for the maid of honour, bridesmaids and flower girls. We also have ‘mother of the groom’ and ‘mother of the bride’ designs, which will have their own packaging and hopefully invitations too.
What would you like to do next with the business?
We’re looking into developing some of the designs onto phone cases or even note pads, mugs and make up bags.
Thank you Emily!
