A Look at Top Drawer Autumn 2015’s Must-See Exhibitors.
Following on from last week’s look at Autumn Fair’s must-see exhibitors it’s now time to turn our attention to the next great show, with a rundown of Top Drawer Autumn 2015’s Must-See Exhibitors.
Top Drawer is London’s largest design-led gift trade event. Showcasing thousands of carefully selected British and international suppliers and designer-makers. We’ve already covered the reasons you should visit Top Drawer Autumn 2015 and now I wanted to share a preview of a few of the exhibitors and product pictures! A hand-picked selection of must-see stands, that epitomise the design-led, quality focus of the Top Drawer exhibition.
1. A.M International
A.M International is the sole UK & Ireland distributors for world famous and traditional toy, gift and souvenir companies based in Germany. With 25 years experience they have a fabulous array of products. Ranges include the award winning porcelain collections from Reutter, high quality wooden toys and educational products from Selecta and traditional teddy bears and soft plush from Clemens Spieltiere. At Top Drawer they will be showing new lines for Christmas and Christening gifts in Peter Rabbit, Jemima, Alice in Wonderland & Wizard of Oz designs; tea sets in bookcases from Reutter, new FSC accredited wooden toys from Selecta and plush Clemens bears.
Anorak is a British brand with its heart planted firmly in the great outdoors. Inspired by childhood camping adventures, Anorak’s founder and Creative Director Laurie Robertson uses striking silhouettes to bring a touch of fun and whimsy to homewares and outdoor lifestyle accessories. From Kissing Rabbits to Proud Foxes, Anorak’s animal designs are bold and bright. Beyond great style, the Anorak range has function at its heart; wash bags are wipe clean, sleeping bags are designed with plenty of leg room and picnic blankets are light enough to carry on the longest of treks.
3. Chase and Wonder
Chase and Wonder is an independent British stationery and gift brand focused on producing designs and products of the highest quality, all of which are proudly made in Britain. They have previously supplied to some of the worlds finest emporiums including; Liberty of London, Fortnum and Mason, Harrods, Paperchace and Paul Smith.
For Top Drawer Autumn, Chase and Wonder will be showcasing new greeting cards, gold foiled correspondence sets (shown above), handkerchief sets, gift tags and wrapping paper packs. Like the Aristocratic Animal designs I have featured previously, the designs are inspired by Victoriana and feature characters, creatures, messages and motifs, hand-crafted in rural Cheshire.
4. Fable Bags
Fable Bags produce designs which “tip a hat” to current trends while maintaining a classic, elegant look. Specialising in leather bags, satchels and luggage, all Fable Bags are handmade by traditional craftsmen using 100% natural leather, which ages beautifully; adding to the style of each piece. Classic in nature, yet designed for modern living, bags are finished with practical additions and unique hand-finished detailing.
At Top Drawer, they will be showcasing a range of leather bags including the Rowan, Kestral and Oxford Bags. As well as the best-selling, Ambers Saddlebag.
Jangneus believe the best design is practical. Swedish kitchen culture encompasses their vision to combine the Swedish tradition of form and function; creating useful products with original design.
The range of colourful and fun accessories makes even the simplest domestic chores a more cheerful activity. At Top Drawer they will be showing dishcloths, tea towels, trays and greeting cards, each complete with fresh Scandinavian style.
I spent a lot of trade shows exhibiting directly opposite the lovely plush toys of Jellycat so I’m always keen to see their new products. Established in 1999, Jellycat designs gorgeous soft toys that are “irresistibly cuddly, sophisticatedly silly and hilariously humorous”. The perfect gift for any age; newborns, children or anyone with a soft spot for softer than soft toys. Launching new products twice every year, collections are inspired by international trends and utilise the most luxurious fabrics available.
7. Kids Concept UK
Kids Concept is a Scandinavian brand exhibiting for the first time in the UK at this year’s Top Drawer Autumn. Specailising in unique gifts, toys, room accessories and lots more for babies and children. At Top Drawer Kids Concept will be launching two new concept ranges. Co-ordinating products by colours and concept, the collection allows for mix and match to create a stylish coordinated design. Products are designed exclusively by Kids Concept. Look out for their unique wooden products, which are all handmade.
8. L:A Bruket
L:A BRUKET specialises in organic spa products, botanical skin care and botanical treats. Based in Sweden, L:A BRUKET’s products originate from the coastal living conditions of their home country, with its hard rains, heavy winds, strong sunshine and salt water. Their “low tech” spa products and botanical treats all contain natural, high quality ingredients, most of which are organic too. Making the most of their natural qualities to achieve the best possible effects that help their customers maintain healthy and beautiful skin. Wonderfully scented to give a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
The love of glass has been part of Leonardo’s philosophy for more than 150 years. From breakfast to the candlelit dinner, from the wine glass to the handmade sculpture, the love of glass is always evident. Leonardo will be showcasing their collection at the HOME sector of Top Drawer for the first time this year. Look out for beautiful colours and shapes across their glassware range.
10. Lorna Syson
Award winning British designer, Lorna Syson, set up her homeware brand in 2009. I first shared Lorna’s designs here on Card & Gift Network back in 2010 and since then the brand has grown from strength to strength, with products shipped to interior shops and boutiques across the globe. At Top Drawer Autumn Lorna Syson will be revealing two brand new additions to the Bloom collection. The two new designs, ‘Hydrangea’ and ‘Long Tailed Tit’ are stunning, graphic interpretations of British wildlife. Great additions to last year’s Flock cushions. The company will also debut their lifestyle range of planting baskets, storage baskets, make up bags and tote bags.
11. Martick Jewellery
Founded in 1988, Martick Jewellery produces award-winning fashion jewellery featuring freshwater pearls, Bohemian and Murano glass. Each jewellery piece is handmade in London by professionally trained jewellers and offers everything from classical to contemporary designs. At Top Drawer Autumn Martick Jewellery will be showing their award winning, gold plated on sterling silver range ‘Branch Out’ that won 2015’s Gift of the Year‘ in the fashion jewellery category.
12. Melody Rose
Founded in 2011 by designer Melanie Roseveare, Melody Rose create high quality, contemporary bone china tableware with an elegant twist.
This year Melody Rose will launch its new ‘In Colour’ collection of fine bone china tableware. Inspired by 1970’s colour palettes, In Colour introduces bold splashes of colour to the Melody Rose collection. In keeping with the brand’s playful, yet elegant style, expect to see fresh blue and zingy green, bright yellow and vintage red borders; all featuring Melody Rose’s uniquely quirky designs. The result … heritage tableware with a 21st Century twist.
13. Old English Company
New to Top Drawer, Old English Company will launch their new greetings cards, pillow cover designs and aprons at this September’s show. Old English Company illustrate and produce home ware, gifts and stationery with product ranges including prints, greetings card, aprons, tea towels, mugs and pillow covers to name a few. All products are illustrated by Ben Treanor, before being produced either in house or with a little help from local UK-based manufacturers.
QUALY Denmark distribute the Thai design brand QUALY in the UK, Denmark, Iceland and Finland. The award-winning QUALY was established on 17th December 2004 by Thosaphol Suppametheekulwat (or just Thos) with his older brother Teerachai Jai (or just TJ) as designer. A design studio focusing on decorative items that create happiness and fun … and above all make you smile. The surprising and eye-catching designs have fabulous details and will often give you an ‘aha!’ feeling when you discover the function. At Top Drawer, the team will present 12-15 new designs perfect for the Christmas season.
Known for their colourful melamine products, RICE designs are inspired by “the good old days” … casual in style, yet rich in detail. This year at Top Drawer, RICE will launch their Autumn/Winter 2015 collection ‘Stay Outstanding’. Mixing delicate and sophisticated patterns with a variety of colours from pastel pink to dark mint. For the kids, RICE will also be showing their new circus prints. Other new designs include; neon coloured pepper grinders, golden deer candle holders, disco balls and big soft cushions.
16. Rosa & Clara
Rosa & Clara Designs create homewares and gifts featuring cheerful, illustrative patterns. From pineapple print lampshades to zebra covered wash bags, everything is designed to bring colour and cheer into everyday life. Founded by Jessica Hayman, a former lawyer, Rosa & Clara Designs start as illustrations created in Jessica’s London studio before being brought to life by British printers and manufacturers. New for Top Drawer will be a collection of wash bags, perfect for Christmas, special ‘Noel’ sticky tape and delightful Christmas card packs.
17. Stitch & Story
Founded two years ago, Stitch & Story’s yarns are made from 100% merino wool, spun and dyed in Italy, and seek to promote wool as a sustainable and eco-friendly fibre. This year, Stitch & Story will be showing new ranges including the Masley Cushion Cover, Bounty Throw and Lola Pom Slippers Knitting Kits alongside the best-selling Luca Pom Hat Knitting Kit (shown above).
18. STUDIO SCRASE
STUDIO SCRASE is a greeting card & stationery brand created by Bath-based Artist and Designer, Donna-Marie Scrase. Boasting an innovative blend of design & illustration with traditional drawing and painting, Donna creates fresh and characterful illustrations.Working with strong colour palettes, these illustrations then become greeting cards, art prints, fabrics and wedding stationery. Each of the products is printed and packaged by hand in Bath’s Artisan Quarter, using FSC certified printers.
At Top Drawer,STUDIO SCRASE will be launching a brand new collection of greeting cards, gift wrap and art prints perfect for the festive period and beyond.
19. Swarm Design
My final pick of Top Drawer Autumn 2015’s Must-See Exhibitors is Swarm Design England. A new luxury interiors brand specialising in high-end textiles and products. I had the pleasure of interviewing Swarm Design England’s Creative Director Adam Slade for the Piccadilly Lane blog back in April so it’s great to see the company making their trade show debut. All of Swarm Design England’s products are exclusively designed and made by hand in Britain and offer a unique take on the contemporary British interior. Seductively dark and enchantingly mysterious designs, featuring insects, antiques and statuary.
