Helen Round’s Coastal Homewares Inspired by Seafaring Days
Designer-Maker Helen Round has recently launched a new collection of coastal homewares. A unique range of designs for the home with historic inspiration.
Helen found inspiration for her new Coastal homeware collection from a replica 18th century Cornish Privateer. Originally built in 1776 on Rame Head (near Helen’s studio), the boat was re- built in 2011 by Marcus and Freya Pomeroy-Rowden of Grayhound Lugger Sailing.
The new range features the traditional dual mast fishing and sailing boat as a central theme. Bringing Cornwall’s legacy of seafaring and smuggling into Helen’s unique textiles.
Using her trademark line drawings, Helen depicts the Lugger seeking refuge in a quiet Cornish cove. A simple, elegant design, which has been hand-printed onto highest quality linen. Creating a modern collection of beautiful linen homewares and accessories.
The coastal homewares range includes: lampshades, cushions, tea towels, aprons and bags. The new collection also introduces a bold new navy colour palette and new products; a large toiletry bag and stylish linen napkins with matching placemats.
Helen delights in how the local boat builders have restored this beautiful sea vessel. A piece of history that can often be seen in the bay near her studio. Helen says:
“Marcus and Freya Pomeroy-Rowden use their restored Lugger to run low carbon cargo deliveries between France and Cornwall and also offer adventure sailing holidays to the Isles of Scilly and Brittany. The new collection is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the maritime heritage of the wonderful Cornish county I live in and love.”
