Introducing the Wonderful World of Mister Berwyn

We all need something a little cheerful in our lives and today that thing for me is Mister Berwyn.

Mister Berwyn is a homeware and gift brand that create cheerful, British made products for happy homes. The company launched to the world in July 2016, so I’m delighted to be able to share their collection with you at such an early stage; hopefully it’s the first of many check-ins with this new gift company.

The Mister Berwyn Collection

Mister Berwyn offers a range of ceramics, cushions, tea towels and stationery products. Each item in the collection features beautifully detailed illustrations and distinctive animal characters; all drawn with a playful style that brings unique charm to the products.

Adding quality craftsmanship to the design process, all of the products are manufactured to the highest standards by a network of talented crafts people.

Currently the Mister Berwyn collection has 3 distinct ranges. Let’s take a closer look at each of these.

The Nocturnal range celebrates owls, moles, badgers and more creatures of the night. Lovingly hand-drawn by Mister Berwyn’s illustrator extraordinaire Amy Brown. Beautifully captured, these gorgeous nocturnal creatures can be enjoyed at all hours on a selection of homeware and giftware.

About Mister Berwyn

To get a little “behind the scenes” info on Mister Berwyn I caught up with owner and Illustrator Amy Brown; who was kind enough to answer a few questions about the company, the products and the future of Mister Berwyn. So let’s hear direct from Amy…

What inspired you to start your business, Mister Berwyn?

I started the business because it enables me to combine two things I love the most, design and homeware. I wanted to apply my illustrations to practical, long lasting products that can be enjoyed time and time again.

Can you tell us about your design style?

I find each collection begins with one character. Our Nocturnal collection began when I created the owl illustration just through chance. The rest naturally grew from there. The owl would live near other animals so I painted them as well. All the ranges so far have come together this way and I hope they always do.

I wanted the collection to be colourful and make people smile. My main influence starts from wanting to create products that can bring happiness into homes, products that are carefully sourced and lovingly made.

I love this area of design as it gives you and others tangible items to cherish and enjoy. Willliam Morris’s quote below sums it up!

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

Can you tell us about the craftsmanship of the collection?

All our products are made in Britain and responsibly sourced.

All our ceramics are made in Stoke-on-Trent. A great deal of craftsmanship goes into each piece from creating the china, applying my designs, numerous firings through to the final hand painted elements like the bright yellow handle on our circus mug.

What would you like to do next with the business?

The list is endless! There is so much we want to do! I am working on new artwork for a whole new range that we hope to launch next year. This year we will be launching a new product for our first birthday and extending our current ranges with some new products throughout the year.
