A Closer Look at Christmas 2017’s Best Christmas Cards
Tis year the greetings card industry has once again outdone itself with a wonderful selection of Christmas cards on offer. For today’s look at Christmas 2017, I wanted to share a closer look at a few cards in particular, the year’s best award-nominated Christmas cards.
To do this I’ve gone to the greeting card industries very own Henries Awards for inspiration. At the Henries 2017, there were 2 categories for Christmas greeting cards: ‘Best Christmas Counter Range’ and ‘Best Christmas Box or Pack’.
For each of the categories I’ve picked a few of my personal highlights from the nominated finalists.
Best Christmas Counter Range
The first category of Christmas cards that the Henries Awards looked at was the ‘Best Christmas Counter Range’. This was open to all Christmas counter ranges that have been released or updated with at least 8 individual greetings card designs since August 2016.
There were six finalists in the category, and I’m happy to be sharing a few of my favourites here.
Christmas Edged In Gold by Five Dollar Shake
Known for their high-end luxury greetings cards, Five Dollar Shake have frequently won awards for their Christmas Cards. This year’s new collection, ‘Christmas Edged in Gold’ keeps that award-nominated tradition. Designs feature a specially sourced textured card stock and beautiful illustrations; each one is then finished with a dusting of gold sparkle and a handful of colourful gems for that extra special festive touch.
Available from retailers across the country, find out more at the Five Dollar Shake website.
Flair by Hotchpotch
Hotchpotch’s Christmas ‘Flair’ range is a great way to put a lot of fun in the festive holiday. The bright cards stand out on a shelf and each comes supplied with a brilliant enamel pin. With rose gold coloured plating and a non-slip rubber backing, it’s the perfect way to wear a little Christmas everywhere you go. My favourite design in the collection is this awesome ‘Everyday I’m Brusselin’ design.
Available to buy from stockists nationwide, find out more at the Hotchpotch website.
Winter Park Life by Rocket 68
Inspired by Rocket68’s popular ‘Park life’ range, ‘Winter Park Life’ is a nostalgic collection showcasing bold images with a retro flavour. Bringing a unique festive atmosphere, the cosy winter designs, include enticing food vans, mulled wine and cable cars over the mountains.
With an on-trend Nordic/Scandinavian feel, each design is initially hand drawn by illustrator Jill White, before being finished using software. The cards are then printed in the UK on a textured 350 gsm board and matched with a bright red envelope.

Christmas Gin & Frolics
Last but not least in my pick of the best award nominated Christmas cards from the counter range selection is this delightful ‘Pigs in Blankets’ Design. Created by Rosie Made a Thing the card combines appealing illustration and photography to create a unique Christmas card sure to bring a smile over the holidays.
The card is 1 of 18 designs in the nominated ‘Gin & Frolics’ greeting card range. Each design celebrates the funny bits of Christmas that we can all relate to – pigs in blankets, booze, and people who put their tree up too early! Rosie Made a Thing’s Christmas range is printed on a quality textured board and matched with a festive red envelope.

Best Christmas Box or Pack
Following on from our look at the Christmas counter finalists, I next want to share a few favourites from the ‘Best Christmas Box or Pack’ category. The awards were open to any pack or box of Christmas cards launched since August 2016; finalists could include individual items or ranges.
Sara Miller London Christmas by The Art File
Designed for The Art File by Sara Miller, the ‘Sara Miller London Christmas’ collection is a boxed set of 8 cards (1 design per box) featuring elegant festive scenes. My favourite from the award winning collection is this pack of ‘Luxury Geese Christmas Cards’.
The beautifully illustrated Geese are finished with textured gold foil and embossed details, to bring a true taste of luxury to the holidays.
Available from stockists across the country, find out more at The Art File website.
Poppy Reay Christmas Box by U Studio
The next pick from this year’s Henries finalists was the ‘Poppy Reay Christmas Cards Box’ by U Studio; a box of 9 adorable and funny Christmas greetings bring humour to the holidays.
Each box features 3 different pun-tastic designs by Poppy Reay. Supplied in their own storage box, the Christmas cards are left blank inside for your own personal message and come paired with a quality red envelope.

Cats in Christmas Hats Christmas Card by Jo Clark Design
My final favourite from the best award-nominated Christmas cards of 2017 is the ‘Cats in Christmas Hats’ collection from Jo Clark Design; the very best Christmas cards to send to cat lovers everywhere.
The full range of ‘Cats in Christmas Hats’ consists of twelve individual designs. There are two sets of Christmas boxes to collect, each with six different festive cats.
The range is designed and digitally printed in the UK on FSC approved, 300gsm white board, before being matched with a red recycled envelope.
On a side note, fans of Jo’s cards should also look out for the amazing 2018 wall calendar design (sneak peek below), which puts the focus on an adorable collection of naughty dogs.
