The Must-See Exhibitors at Top Drawer 2018
It’s another new year and that means Top Drawer 2018 has arrived to give us an exciting look at the year ahead in retail.
This weekend sees hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors from across the world descending on Olympia to see just what the worlds of cards, gifts, fashion and home have in store for 2018.
I’d happily show you all the exhibitors but unfortunately that would probably take months, so instead I’ve had to restrain myself to a few favourites. A round-up of must-see stands if you’re visiting the show, or companies whose brochures you need to order now if you can’t make the trip down to London.
Abrams & Chronicle Books – Stand: M47a
Abrams & Chronicle Books is a distributor of a wide range of illustrated books, gifts and stationery. This season, they are delighted to announce the addition of Laurence King Publishing to their list. Other key releases this season include Galison’s Cosmos range, Floral One Line a Day from Chronicle, the anti-valentine day title Love Sucks from Smith Street, Knock Knock’s new sticky roll notes and many more.
Blue Eyed Sun – Stand: T42
Blue Eyed Sun, have launched a gorgeous new range of hand finished everyday cards called Daydream. Based on original watercolour artworks by textile artist Jo Corner, these 42 new designs are all hand-finished with jewels.
Distinctive and original, the cards are 160mm x 160mm and retail for £3.25 . The range includes all major everyday occasions and a good selection of birthday designs.
Coulson Macleod – Stand: O41
Coulson Macleod’s entire stand at Top Drawer will be filled with new product. They will be exhibiting 28 new rose-gold foil concertina cards; adding to the existing range, which currently only has five designs.
The best-selling Wise Words range is also showing lots of new additions; 30 greeting cards and corresponding art prints. alongside framed foiled prints, mugs, and plywood prints.
Last but not least the Coulson Macleod team are excited to show off their new concept, a regionally personalised range, which can be personalised by shops with their choice of place name and recipient.
Eloise Hall – Stand: O69
Having been constantly inspired by the beautiful Somerset countryside, Eloise Hall have decided to bring this to life in their English Countryside range; depicting many of the wonderful creatures and fauna.
At Top Drawer 2018 they will also be showcasing an exciting new product range that includes therapeutic room diffusers and natural wax candles; complementing their beautiful Botanical card and stationery range.
Georgia Breeze Designs – Stand: ZA40
Georgia Breeze produce high quality greeting cards created from paper collage. All of their cards are printed onto a textured board and are beautifully finished to reflect a passion for hand crafted design.
Top Drawer 2018 marks the trade show debut for the brand, and they will be celebrating the milestone with a new brightly coloured hot foil range Kaleido, which features designs for everyday and special occasions.
Hotchpotch – Stand: X54
At this year’s Top Drawer Hotchpotch will be delivering a heap of new gift dressings and greeting cards. Their exciting new gift dressings collections – Summer Daze & Hello Neon – deliver oversized tropical leaves, cactus prints and flamingos splashed with their signature neon pink. The collections will include: gift bags, tags, tissue, flat wrap and roll wrap.
The new card collections are a classic and cool letterpress style with a hint of nostalgia. Look out for new collections: Shake Your Pom Poms, Plastic Fantastic, Ironing Man and Lulu.
James Ellis – Stand: T40
James Ellis will be showing a brand new range of luxurious, handmade occasion Shakies at Top Drawer 2018. Foiled with gold, silver and crimson and filled with glitter and confetti, the range covers general anniversary, silver, pearl, ruby, gold and diamond anniversary, baby girl and boy, wedding, christening, congratulations and engagement.
Jin Designs – Stand: P52
For Top Drawer 2018 Jin Designs will be exhibiting a new Woodland Collection and a range of wonderful Zip Bags. The Woodland Collection is an adorable and stylish range featuring Fox, Hedgehog, Badger and Rabbit characters appearing on beautifully made homeware and gifts.
The new Zip Bags are the latest addition to the Jin Designs growing range of homeware, gifts and accessories. Handmade from high quality canvas, the bags can be used as a wash bag, makeup bag, travel bag or even a pencil case. 8 designs will be available to stock: Fox, Hedgehog, Badger, Rabbit, Sitting Cat, Sitting Dog, Penguin and Robin.
Jo Clark Design – Stand: ZB51
Jo Clark Design will be unveiling a new ‘Naughty Dogs’ greetings cards range at this year’s Top Drawer. As 2018 is the ‘year of the dog’ Jo will has celebrated with her own collection of naughty dogs. The illustrated cards feature dogs being their clumsy, funny, lovable selves; guaranteed to make card buyers smile.
Alongside the puppies, there will also be some fresh new additions to the best-selling Fruit & Veg cards for visitors to look out for.
Lou Mills – Stand: Z42
Lou Mills will be showing two new ranges at Top Drawer 2018. First is Nautical But Nice, inspired by the good old British Seaside; a range of cards and A3 and A4 prints decorated with plenty of seagulls, mermaids, boats and fish and chips. Printed on a high quality textured board and with a slightly worn look that mimics the weathered look of charming coastal areas.
The second new addition is Pots and Pansies, floral designs taken from original paintings by Lou and developed into art prints, notecards and greeting cards perfect for a variety of occasions through the year.
Mclaggan Smith Mugs – Stand: J69
For 2018 Mclaggan will be collaborating with some fantastic designers and artists to launch lots of stylish new designs, alongside their well-established sellers.
London printmakers, Thornback & Peel, take traditional motifs and update them for contemporary living. These stunning designs are intricate, eccentric and quintessentially British.
A series of vibrant illustrations from Scottish artist, Hole in my Pocket, will delight the young and the young at heart alike. Hole in my Pocket’s distinctive style is bursting with colour, charm and humour.
Also look out for six popular sports featuring on a collection from Scottish artist, Kate Spurway. With hand-drawn illustrations, splatters of colour and a humorous quote, they’re the ideal way for sports enthusiasts to enjoy a cuppa.
Ohh Deer – Stand: V63
At Top Drawer the Ohh Deer team will be introducing Ohh Deer as the new home for Hello!Lucky in Europe. Bursting with vibrant neons, gorgeous foils…and more puns than you can shake a stick at, it’s no wonder Ohh Dear think it’s a match made in heaven.
The new collection features cards for everyday, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day & Christmas.
The wonderful Teapigs will also be joining Ohh Deer with a pop up café throughout the show on their stand, so all visitors can pop by for a cuppa at stand V63!
Old English Company – Stand: X37
Old English Company will be showing the newest additions to their Spring/Summer greeting card range, Speckled Foil. An illustrative and fun style, which isn’t gender specific, the cards are designed to be perfect for an array of occasions.
The 16 greeting card designs are playful yet stylish, made from 280gsm textured white card with subtle light grey envelopes. The colour scheme is neutral and uses foil with a slight indent.
Penny Lindop Designs – Stand: Z57
2018 sees Penny Lindop celebrating their 20th birthday, and the team have lots of exciting moments planned for the year. At Top Drawer 2018 retailers will get an exclusive sneak peek in how they can join in with celebrations, as well as getting a first look at Penny’s ever growing woolly animal gang.
New animals include cows and elephant, and some of their most popular animals have had a birthday year refresh. Look out for greeting cards, notecards and art prints, all looking gorgeous and designed to make customers smile.
Redback Cards – Stand: ZA41
Redback Cards love starting the New Year with a delightful new range and January’s Top Drawer sees the team launching Piñata; a fun and funny range of enamel pin cards. These wonderful cards delight with lively colours and metallic foiling – what more could you want than a cute pin to remember a big celebration!
Following on from Cloud Nine’s success last year, Redback Cards will be adding a number of new designs to brighten up the new year. These cards continue to amuse with their signature humour, bright colours and fabulous foiling so be sure not to miss them at the show.
Sarah Lovell Art – Stand: Y36
Sarah Lovell Art is looking forward to showing brand new, hand-painted additions to their popular card range Golden Touch. A different design on every card with a gold foiled and hand-lettered section in the centre. All of the cards in this range are blank inside and come cello wrapped with a golden envelope.
The show also sees Sarah launching a new collection of 5 hand-illustrated gift wrap designs. All products are designed and printed in the UK using eco friendly boards and inks.
Sophie Allport – Stand: K68
Sophie Allport is launching over 250 new products for SS18 and six new collections. From the Garden Birds range, which captures the beauty of five British birds on wonderful gift ideas to the Dinosaur collection inspired by her boys’ love of these prehistoric animals.
Also look out for new ranges: Sheep, Dachshund, Pug and Fab Labs, which feature animals captured in Sophie’s unique design style.
Stoneglow Candles – Stand: K47
Stoneglow Candles are kicking off 2018 with not just one new range but four brand new collections of stunning Candles and Diffusers; all British designed and made in the UK. With such beautiful new ranges in development, the team have also been busy creating a whole new trade, which will be debuted at Top Drawer.
Look out for new fragrance collections: Potager Garden, Mixology, Day Flower and Night Flower. Stoneglow Candles will be bringing a host of aromas from the familiar fragrances of the garden, to the dark and alluring fragrance notes of flowers.
Fragrance fans should also make a note to look out for the Night Flower collection, which was shortlisted for Gift of the Year 2018.
Tache Crafts – Stand: Z38
Tache Crafts have 3 exciting new launches at Top Drawer. The most notable is their first ever collaboration with the world famous brand, Smiley. The Tache x Smiley range is handmade and features a classic selection of Smiley’s hand-stuck onto each card design.
Alongside the Smileys, Top Drawer visitors should also be on the lookout for 2 further new ranges. The first is Mashup, which features a mashup of styles and characters new and old, featuring similar humour and style from the company’s other popular handmade ranges. This will be Tache Crafts first non-handmade range, featuring embossing and glitter instead.
The final new range is another non-handmade collection called Funky Foils. The contemporary design-led cards are foil based and feature holographic or gold foil and embossing.
The Art File – Stand: U47
The Art File will have a grand total of 14 brand new everyday collections being launched at Top Drawer this year. Look out for the popular ‘I Like Birds’ Licence, new designs from Sara Miller and Ben Rothery, brand new designs from their award winning collection, Geronimo, as well as a host of fantastic never before seen collections
The Art File team will also be showcasing new gift bag and wrap designs for the first time ever. Ideal for those who love The Art File style and want to see their collection expand beyond cards.
U Studio – Stand: M47, U37
U Studio will be launching four new card and postcard ranges; as well as delivering several additions to their current ranges of cards and gifts.
At Top Drawer visitors will get to see U Studio expanding their collection to jewellery, and see new designs from Rob Hodgson and Al Murphy Artist Pins and Zencils (they are Zen pencils!).
The U Studio team will also be showing a revamp of their most popular card range, Scrawl. Including new additions of notebooks and coasters.
Top Drawer 2018 marks the biggest launch of U Studio giftware to date. Featuring charming illustrations by artist Blanca Gomez, the collection includes homewares, ceramics, stationery, pins, iron-on patches and accessories; as well new card designs.
Victoria Eggs – Stand: O48
Last but not least in my pick of must-see stands at Top Drawer 2018 is award winning designer Victoria Eggs. A company making fun and playful homewares and gifts, all proudly ‘Made in Britain’.
Victoria’s latest collection, launching at Top Drawer, is inspired by time spent along Britain’s coastlines, and highlights a nostalgic and whimsical view of the seaside; serving as a reminder of everything there is to love about holidays in the UK.
The range includes 33 new products, all proudly made in Britain and will be launching alongside a range of cosmetic bags and a limited edition Royal Wedding tea towel.
