Do You Have a Winning Product for Gift of the Year 2019?
It’s that time of year once again, The Gift of the Year 2019 competition is open to new entries.
Held annually, The Gift of the Year Awards is the gift industry’s largest and most prestigious product-focused competition. Organised by The Giftware Association, the competition focuses on the best new giftware products launched each year; for the 2019 event that means giftware on the market in late 2018 and through to 2019.
The Gift of the Year 2019 is open to everyone, whether you’re a new giftware designer or an established gift business. If you have new products that will be debuting on to the industry late 2018 – early 2019, you can enter.
How it Works
July – November – Gift of the Year 2019 is open for entries.
December – Online judging reviews all submissions and creates a shortlist of products for each awards category.
January – An expert judging panel gathers to review a sample of each shortlisted gift and choose their winners.
February – The results are announced and an awards ceremony is held at Spring Fair 2019.
Gift of the Year 2019 Categories
There are 20 categories in this year’s competition.
Beauty, Bath & Spa
Products for grooming and beauty, health and wellbeing, or those that bring a touch of the spa into the home.
Any licensed product linked to well-known characters or entertainment brands.
Cards & Wrap
Greetings cards, wrapping paper, and gift boxes for any occasion.
Toys, kits, and gadgets for children and infants.
Commemorative & Collectable Gift
Commemorative gifts for any occasion – collectibles, souvenirs, personalised products, and trinkets.
Funky, design-led gifts with a quirky modern feel.
Design & Craft
Products designed and made in smaller studios with the personal touch.
Gifts that are fair trade, eco-friendly, or are produced to a high standard of worker welfare.
Wearable accessories including scarves, bags, purses, and belts.
Jewellery, trinkets, charms and Bijoux made from metal, stone, ceramic, wood or anything in between, designed to accessorise an outfit.
Festive & Occasional Gift
Products specifically designed and themed around key calendar events or parties – Valentine’s day, Mother’s day, Hanukah, Halloween, birthdays, anniversaries and all in between.
Food & Drink
Gifts you can eat or drink, or kits to make your own food and beverages.
Garden & Outdoor
Gifts for the green-thumbed and accessories for the outdoors.
Gifts you can write in, with or on – diaries, calendars, notebooks, pens, pencils and so on.
Any item that adorns the home – modern, traditional, classic, country, urban living or fun and quirky.
Products that bring scent into the home; candles, reed diffusers and so on.
Gifts with a touch of silliness (or naughtiness) and fun.
Kitchen & Dining
Gifts for budding chefs and those who love to entertain – tableware, glassware, cutlery, table decoration, kitchen gadgets, and utensils.
Gifts for pets – food, accessories, bath products etc, all for animals.
Any gift product retailing at £10 or below.
The Judges’ Choice Award
This bonus “best of the best” award bestows an extra “Judges’ Choice” nod on one selected gift product, which is chosen from the winners in all of the other categories.
What Winning the Gift of the Year 2019 Brings to a Business
Gift of the Year 2019 winners will all benefit from much-needed exposure, promotion and prestige for their business and product range.
Each of the winning and highly commended gifts is featured in a Winners Brochure, which is distributed at the industry’s major trade shows throughout the year, and to the Giftware Association’s retailer members. Providing a great way to promote directly to trade buyers.
The winner of the top prize, the ‘Judges’ Choice Award’ will also receive the added bonus of a free stand, courtesey of Autumn Fair.
Benefits of Nominating Your Gift Products
The Giftware Association is keen to help all of the gift industry succeed, so Gift of the Year 2019 isn’t just about the winners.
By nominating a product for a Gift of the Year award you can access special event logos, which can be used on websites and social media to highlight participation. Connecting your business to a well-known and highly regarded industry event.
Shortlisted products may even get an extra promotional boost via a feature on the Gift of the Year social media channels on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
On top of all the extra publicity the awards offer, every single entry to the Gift of the Year 2019 will be put before the panel of judges during the online stage of judging in December. In the past, this has proved an excellent chance to put new products in front of buyers, who are always keen to talk to entrants about their products.
How Much Does It Cost?
Entries to the Gift of the Year 2019 will cost £75, or £50 if entrants are members of the GA, JDA, GCA, BTAA or NAJ.
Businesses can get a 20% ‘early bird’ discount off these prices if they complete their entry before the end of September.
There is no limit to how many products you can enter into a category, or how many categories you can enter a single product or range into.
