Tell us a little about yourself and your company?

I recently left a 24 year military career and decided to pair my desire to run my own business with my passion for greeting cards and start an online business specialising in design led greeting cards and stationery. My company, Card Crush, is a new, family run business, which operates from a small office in Hertfordshire. I also offer a handwritten greeting card service for busy individuals and small businesses. A personal and flexible service which takes the hassle out of choosing and hand writing cards which are posted on your behalf.

Describe your typical working day …

Most days are busy ones! I pick, pack and dispatch orders made overnight. I communicate with my customers through social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest) showing them new ideas, products and informing them of current promotions. Planning of future promotions, newsletters and blog ideas. I research new stock through reading trade magazines and using the Internet. Card and Gift Network is useful for my research. I attend local network groups in and around Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire and as a committee member for Bedfordshire WiRE (Women in Rural Enterprise) there are administrative tasks that need to be done. I write a blog and a newsletter, which is a great way to inform my customers of news and new products. I do try and do some exercise during the day! Either walking or cycling.

What is the best thing about your job?

Receiving new products. Getting feedback from customers who are happy with their purchase. I received a postcard from Sacramento, California from a lady that bought some cards saying how happy she was with the cards – it made my day!

Who are your customers?

Busy working ladies and gents aged between 30-65.

Your Products

What is your favourite product in the shop?

A very difficult question! I do love Stop The Clock Designs new home greeting card. Why? The colours are gorgeous and the quality of the card is exceptional. I love the added sparkles on the pots of paint!

What are the most popular products you’re currently stocking?

Cinnamon Aitch are very popular and the wedding anniversary cards are quite popular. I have sold a lot of age cards between 40-100! I sold my first 100th birthday card a few months ago! But the most popular cards have been: Thank you Flower Girl by Cinnamon Aitch and Hurrah! At last I’m 50! By Anne Taintor.

What products are you introducing this year?

I will be looking for some quality notebooks and diaries at Top Drawer this weekend. I want to offer more in the line of notebooks and pens. I will be adding to my card ranges too and will be looking for new designs from Cinnamon Aitch, Megan Claire and Caroline Gardner.

What trend are you looking forward to introducing to your customers?

I am waiting to see what is being launched at Top Drawer and fresh new designs from the finalists of the Henries Awards in October. I will be interested to see Think of Me Designs as they are quite bright and contemporary.

What plans do you have for your business in the next year?

I want to increase our range of products across our age and relation categories. Although I do offer promotions and discount to regular customers, I will soon offer a loyalty scheme available automatically on our website.

Your Inspiration

What inspires your product selection?

Colour is a big inspiration for me. I love bright contemporary colours. Pattern – I love repeat patterns. Quality of the product and typography – I love all the different fonts and mixing them together.

Who are your favourite card and gift designers?

Sally Scaffardi, Alice Palace, Dandelion Stationery, Caroline Gardner and Stop The Clock. I love the Caroline Gardner website – I love the patterns and the colours.
