A Brief Look Behind the Scenes of Create by Memorywall.
Say hello to …
Alex Lawson and Sam Bailey from Create by Memorywall.
Tell us a little about yourself and your company?
Sam and I are two mums and great friends from Brighton. When my daughter Kaia arrived I received lots of congratulations cards, as we all do, and I used them to ‘create’ a collage in a butterfly shape. Sam told me, she thought it was brilliant.
Mostly these special cards are relegated to a box under the bed. I made them into a really individual and personal piece of art for Kaia’s bedroom. Being a designer, Sam saw huge potential in the idea and after many brain storming sessions the concept evolved and ‘Create’ was born.
Describe your typical working day …
Hectic. In addition to Create, I work for a charity three days a week and Sam works as a freelance designer. We meet twice a week and every available opportunity at evenings and weekends to work on developing Create.
What is the best thing about your job?
I get to spend time with my friend whilst creating a product we are passionate about.
Do you use any specialist techniques?
The gift kit is beautifully presented in a white glossy box with a red ribbon tie and magnet fastenings. Each kit includes a white box frame, instruction sheet, a dye cut stencil mount, scissors, glue and a paintbrush.
What would you like to do next with the business?
We are currently concentrating on promoting the business and making Create by Memorywall accessible to others.
Your Products …
What is your personal favourite product in your collection?
My favourite is the butterfly design Sam created with her daughter Dot’s cards!
What are the most popular products in your range?
The butterfly and champagne designs are the most popular, the champagne design has been used for many different occasions, 18th, 21st and 40th birthdays, weddings too of course.
Are you working on at the moment?
We have a few ideas but nothing in production as yet – watch this space!
Your Inspiration …
What inspired you to start your business?
Our collection of cards and beautiful bits and bobs in our children’s keepsake boxes, we used them create something beautiful to display on our walls and wanted to bring that idea into other people’s homes.
What inspires your products?
Providing people with the tools to enable them to create something beautiful.
& Last but not least what other card and gift brands do you admire?
Thank you Alex & Sam!
