A Sneak Peek Behind the Scenes of Fancy Paperie.
In the latest instalment of our Behind the Design series, we’re catching up with Amanda from Fancy Paperie. A new stationery business stepping out into the industry with their unique collection of paper goods.
Tell us a little about your company.
Well, I have always been the artsy type, I’m also a bit of an old soul, that said my long time love of snail mail actually led me to start this stationery business. Fancy Paperie was born out of my snail mail hobby combined with my love of paper and gift wrap. I studied art my whole life so I decided to bring out the paint and start making my own designs. I hand paint all my designs and then have them professionally printed to get the highest quality of printing and paper quality. I specialise in stationery writing sets, cards, gift wrap and now invitations.
What is a typical day like at your business?
First thing I do is to check and reply to any emails I have. Secondly I have a second business (I am a baker) so I will work on that days orders. After I finish with that I will pack up any paper orders I may have. Usually at night sometimes into the early morning I will paint and work on new designs. I don’t sleep very much. LOL.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Creative freedom, I don’t have anyone telling me what to work on or how to do it. I get to use my own personal style and touch in each of my designs. Best of all I get to do what I love everyday.
What inspires which product lines you create?
Like I mentioned early I love old fashioned snail mail and not just that but I love sending beautiful mail. I know there are a few places to find nice writing paper but I wanted to make something I would love to use that wasn’t so plain.
Tell us about your design style.
Oh lots of things I’m really influenced by old vintage images and also nature and florals. I love everything with floral print.
Are there any other card or gift designers you admire?
What is your personal favourite product in your collection?
My personal favourite is one of my new items, the ‘Watercolour Succulent Stationery Set’.
What are the most popular products in your current range?
Those would be the ‘Woodland Fox Stationery Set’ and the ‘Dark Floral Stationery Set’.
What you are working on at the moment?
Yes I am working on holiday gift wrap to match my current collection of woodland holiday cards and also decorative envelopes in the same theme.
What products would you like to introduce in the next year?
I want to add more gift wrap, my own designed envelopes and also notepads.
Manufacturing & Production.
What can you tell us about how your products are made?
I don’t print them myself at the moment I can’t afford the type of printer I would need so I would have to say no on that front. When it comes to painting I either work with acrylics or do watercolour technique for a certain effect for some designs .
Do your products feature any special materials?
No, not yet but at the moment I’m looking for a place for foil printing for the cards in small quantity.
Do the materials have Eco-friendly credentials?
Yes all the paper used in my stationery sets is 100% recycled paper.
What would you like to do next with the business?
I would love to get into retail stores and be sold at small little paper shops. At the moment I just got my first store to carry some of my products, but I would like to find more.
Thank You Amanda.
