New British Ceramics Inspired by the English Garden.
Based in Stoke-on-Trent, ceramics designer Denise O’Sullivan has recently unveiled her latest collection of pretty, modern ceramics; each with a blooming lovely floral decoration sure to delight.
‘English Rose Garden’ is a modern ceramics collection inspired by the quintessential English garden.
O’Sullivan creates statement pieces that are functional, yet beautiful to touch and admire. The collections combine simple and elegant shapes with quirky and playful decoration. While previous patterns have included eye-catching images such as skulls, flamingos and kisses, the new English Rose Garden collection embodies the calm, peaceful nature of the English countryside.
Designed and made in-house at Denise’s studio based in the heart of The Potteries, the new collection combines simple yet elegant forms and beautiful imagery inspired by the flow and movement of nature. Captured in a soft colour palette reminiscent of a beautiful English garden.
The collection includes: a bone china mug, jug and vase, with each piece designed to appear as if it is magically floating; an illusion created via the hidden base at the bottom of each piece.
The modern ceramics are adorned with a beautiful scene of butterflies and English roses, finished with hand-painted gold, platinum and mother of pearl.
Modern Ceramics of The Potteries
With a spot at the heart of British designs and craftsmanship, the ethos behind Denise O’ Sullivan ceramics is to ‘produce quality, authentic ware with personal touches’. Denise is proud of her Potteries heritage and is committed to designing and hand-making premier products in a city renowned for its ceramic excellence. As such, her entire range is inscribed with a ‘Made with love in Stoke-on-Trent’ back stamp. As Denise commented:
“I like to fuse together heritage skills and traditional application methods with innovative new technologies. I consider myself among the new wave of designers, setting new trends and making ceramics exciting again.
Speaking of the inspiration behind her new range, Denise said:
“I love to produce simple forms that are well-crafted and beautifully hand-finished with love. The English Rose Garden collection features clean-cut lines and candy pink colours evocative of ceramic designs from the 1930-50s, by local artists such as Clarice Cliff and Susie Cooper. However, the floating bases and metallic embellishments provide a contemporary edge to the design.”
