Tell us a little about yourself and your company?

I studied fashion and printed textile design before working as a graphic designer. My husband runs his own architectural practice and we have 3 children. I launched Stable Cottage Design in January 2012.

Describe your typical working day.

After walking my golden Lab Bramble I settle into my studio which is in my home (an 18th Century stable building) I deal with any Internet sales first and then work through my trade orders. If I am preparing for a trade show I spend time designing my trade stand, preparing samples and publicity material.

What is the best thing about your job?

I love designing, I am most happy creating new ideas for greetings cards. I also get a kick from happy customer feedback, especially seeing people stop to look at my cards and giggle at their cheeky messages. I also love meeting buyers and seeing my cards in shop windows.

Do you use any specialist techniques or equipment?

All of my work is created using computer aided design. Some of my designs start out as a photograph I have taken but there is always an element of computer enhancement. I love using Photoshop.

Your Products

What is your personal favourite product in your collection?

Probably my White Wine cushion or my Sex Bomb Valentines card.

What are the most popular products in your range?

The most popular cards are from my Scots Speak range – Pure Dead Brilliant and Braw New Hoose

What are you working on at the moment?

I am working on expanding my card ranges. Up to now I have been selling most of my cards within Scotland.; I now have 2 ranges which I hope to sell throughout the UK.

What do you have planned for the year ahead?

I am appearing at two trade shows in 2013 and have joined forces with several gift manufacturers who are licensing my artwork. I hope to significantly increase the number of retail outlets I supply and also reach more people through my online shop.

Your Inspiration

What inspires your products?

Regional dialects, tourist tat, bold use of fonts, clashing patterns and colours.

What other card and gift designers do you admire?

The Brainbox Candy boys- they push cheeky to the limit.

What current or upcoming trend are you’re coveting?

Animal inspired designs, regional dialects cards including Northern English dialect.

Thank you Fiona!
