Thinking of You Week 2017 Launches Today

This week, 25th September to 1st October, sees the launch of Thinking of You Week 2017. The annual event, now in its fourth year aims to inspire a wave of “love, caring and happiness” via the sending of greetings cards.

Science has shown that receiving a handwritten note or card has a greater emotional impact and makes people feel far more special and cared about than receiving emails or texts. In the form of greetings cards people have an easy way to deliver those handwritten sentiments in style.

Getting Involved in Thinking of You Week 2017

Over the next week we can expect to see designers, makers, publishers and more getting involved in the event. Here’s a few of the Thinking of You Week 2017 events you can look out for.

Card Publishers

Card publishers will be offering special deals on greeting cards with ‘Thinking of You’ sentiments. Expect to also see a number of giveaways throughout the week. Look out for the #ThinkingOfYouWeek and #SendACard hashtags on social media for up to date deals and offers.

Card Retailer

Retailers will also be showcasing a selection of beautiful cards that can inspire a thoughtful handwritten message. Look out for posters and window displays for participating retailers.

Card Givers

Those sending greeting cards are also encouraged to get involved by sitting down and sending cards and handwritten messages to friends and loved ones. Take a few moments to show people you care and that you’re thinking of them. You could even have your own coffee morning with a little card writing on the side!

Royal Mail

Once again Royal Mail will be supporting Thinking of You Week 2017 with a special postmark.

Thinking of You Week 2017 Postmark

The special postmark will be printed on all stamped mail for the entire week, Monday to the Saturday. Over six million items every day are sent with postage stamps, which means the Thinking of You Week message will be seen by 36 million people during the week. Prominent on the postmark will be the campaigns new tagline “Send a card to raise a smile”.

Stephen Agar, head of social mail commented:

“There is nothing better than receiving a card in the post and opening it up to find out who sent it. Cards spread happiness and joy in a way that can never be matched by emails and texts. We are really pleased to be marking the campaign with a special postmark.”


Thinking of You Week organisers have also joined forces with Royal Mail’s education department, to give free packs of greeting cards to schools.

Barry Wiles of the education department said:

“We’ve given this a full page of coverage in our Teacher’s Post magazine – as this is such a special event! We’re delighted to help inspire children to write and send cards and help create the wave happiness.”

Sending greeting cards during Thinking of You Week 2017 will be a new way for kids to practice their handwriting, as well as learning empathy, how to express emotion and positive feelings for the recipients of their cards.

During the week the children participating will be encouraged to send cards to each other, friends and family. They could also team up with a home for the elderly or local hospital to spread the positive aims of the week even further.

Thinking of You Week 2017 Toolkit

To make taking part in the Thinking of You Week easy, the organisers, the Greeting Card Association have created a complete Toolkit, which can be downloaded from the event’s website. The kit has everything you need to participate and publicise your own event.
