Card & Gift Network’s Pick of the Top 10 Greeting Cards of 2016

As has been customary at the start of a new year, our first posts of 2017 are a look back. First up is the top 10 greeting cards of 2016. I’ve sifted through all the greetings cards that featured on the blog in 2016 to find and share my favourites.

It wasn’t easy to pick just 10, once again the industry did us proud creating a whole heap of lovely cards. After lots of indecision I finally got down to a shortlist of 24 cards, and from there forced myself to pick the customary top ten.

Amongst the final top 10 greeting cards of 2016 you’ll find seasonal cards, birthday cards, occasion cards and blank cards. The elements that unify them are unique style and quality of design and production. While all the greeting cards I feature on the blog possess these qualities, this pick of the best of the best had something a little extra that’s hard to quantify.

As someone who sees a lot (thousands upon thousands) of greeting cards every year these greeting cards stood out from the crowd, which I think is a very good thing. If you missed seeing them featured the first time I hope you like them, and if you’ve seen them before I hope you like taking a second look.

You’ll find links to the original features in the description of each card. I would also like to stress that the 10 cards are not ranked, there’s no winner all 10 are equally brilliant in my mind.

Great for younger card givers and Easter fans who are young at heart, the Easter card can also be personalised with a name of your choice.
You Are My Universe Card by Counting Stars
Counting Stars You Are My Universe Card

In May we got our first real look at new greetings card company Counting Stars; the young, free-spirited sister company of industry favourites Five Dollar Shake. Their greeting cards combine high quality printing, hand-finished touches and dreamy ideas. My favourite is the You Are My Universe greeting card, with its sleek black backdrop, shimmering planets and sparkly stars.
Bookmark Cards by Noodoll

Next up in our pick of top 10 greeting cards of 2016 is these charming Bookmark Greeting Cards by Noodoll. I’ve always loved Kraft in cards and gift wrap, but you don’t often see it used with children’s cards and I think it looks great. I love the cute character bookmarks that pop out from the Kraft backdrop; Combined with one colour illustrations (in yellow and white) which add detail to the scenes and you’ve got a unique and awesome greeting card.

In picking this year’s top 10 I was looking for greeting cards that would stand out on a shelf and there’s no doubt this Concertina Wedding Card by Coulson Macleod would certainly pass that test. I love the elegance of this card, which is just perfect for a special wedding. The crisp white backdrop, the classic, elegant font and the rose gold foil all combine to make a beautiful, stand out card design.

Making their debut back in May at PG Live 2016 was the new Animal Selfies range from Kali Stileman. Perfect for kids (and selfie fanatics of any age) the greeting cards feature cute animal characters. Alongside this you’ll find hand drawn patterns, subtle textures and bright colours; A splendid combination that makes this lovely Koala Bear design a simply joyful card that is sure to raise a smile.
Branching Out Greeting Card by Wraptious

This gorgeous Branching Out greeting card from Wraptious was one of our new card picks from the Harrogate show back in July. Created by designer Laura Clamp for Wraptious, I just love the truly unique look of the design. The layers, textures and colour palette combine beautifully to create a delicate design bursting with character and charm.
Mr & Mr Card by Memelou
Home & Gift 2016 - Memelou-Stand-DP5-29a

Also first seen in the Harrogate show previews was this delightful Mr & Mr card design by Memelou. This card was chosen for the blog by Sharon Dale who loved its fun, French theme and I have to agree with Sharon’s sentiments. I love the modern illustrative style, which is the perfect pick for a modern wedding; being not too sickly sweet but cute enough for a happy couple’s big day.
Christmas Scratch Card by Joanne Hawker

Our final Top 10 greeting cards of 2016 is this innovative “scratch card” Christmas greetings card from Joanne Hawker. I love Joanne’s illustrative style but here there’s even more to love. With this card Joanne has added an extra special innovative touch. The beautifully illustrated card features a blank space for a secret message. Once written the message is covered with the gold panel, which is “scratched” by the recipient to reveal the surprise; A great way to get into the holiday mood.
